Background
I have an MPhys degree from Aberystwyth University (2004-2008) where my final year project was on the use of colloidal nanoparticles for surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy. I did my PhD at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) between 2008 and 2012 where I defended my thesis on the topic "Engineering the electronic structure of lanthanide materials" in Demember 2012. I then stayed at Delft until June 2014, as a postdoctoral researcher investigating the systematic behaviour of transition metal doped inorganic compounds. From 2015-2019 I was senior specialist technician for physics at the University of Portsmouth, where I ran the research labs, and in particular magnetron sputtering, atomic force microscopy and vibrating sample magnetometry. I joined ¹û½´ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø in 2019 as a Research Fellow on the EPSRC funded project "Heterostructure radiation detector materials for advanced time of flight positron emission tomography (ToF-PET) imaging". My current work is mostly based around the effects of hydrogen on materials.
Current activities
I am a research fellow in Radiation Detector Material Development where I work on the EPSRC funded project 'Heterostructure Radiation Detector Materials for Advanced Time of Flight Positron Emission Tomography (TOF-PET) Imaging'.
My main interests are in the design, manufacture and testing of new detector materials, working with the centre's Kern Evo Micro CNC centre as well as smaller set-ups in the centre including confocal microscopy. I also run the centre's Fourier transform infrared and UV-visible spectrometers, providing support beyond my project.
