Background

Matthew completed a five year degree at Loughborough University in Chemical Engineering, receiving an MEng with a Diploma in International Studies in 2023. During the course Matthew worked for Hilti as an intern for six months. The work situated Matthew at the intersection between the Production, Development and Manufacturing departments in which he led a project developing some of their innovative prototypes.

Furthermore, he undertook a summer internship at Loughborough University which focused on cyber-physical systems and their application to water treatment systems. This later developed into a similar masters project which compared the use of manual and sensor data collection for a novel circular crossflow filtration rig.

In September of 2023, Matthew started his PhD at ¹û½´ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø in the WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) sector.

Current activities

Matthew is part of the Water-WISER CDT programme, and is completing his research at the Cranfield Water Science Institute. Matthew's research interests began during a volunteering trip to his country of ethnic origin, Ghana in 2019. The widespread poverty led Matthew to pivot his life goal towards providing sustainable water and sanitation services to the poor and marginalised groups in Ghana. Currently, his PhD is concentrated on condominial (simplified) sewerage systems and their applicabilty and functionality in sub-Saharan Africa.
