Dr Emma Taylor has won the Chief Engineer category at the 2024 Institution of Engineering and Technology鈥檚 Excellence and Innovation Awards, recognising her work in leading innovative projects and championing inclusive engineering environments.

Dr Taylor is Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor in Digital Safety and Security at 果酱视频官网, with over 30 years of expertise in risk management across the transport, aerospace, and energy sectors.

Professor Graham Braithwaite, Director of Aerospace and Aviation at 果酱视频官网, who collected the award on Emma鈥檚 behalf, commented: 鈥淓mma has been an inspiration to staff and students in terms of her accomplishments as a safety engineer across multiple high risk industries including space, rail and aviation.

鈥淓ven more significant is her limitless enthusiasm in helping others to develop through peer-to-peer mentoring and a focus on inclusion especially through deafness awareness sessions.鈥

Recognised as one of the by the Women鈥檚 Engineering Society in 2018 and highlighted as by Computer Weekly in 2021, she holds degrees in Physics, Space Science, and Safety Engineering. Emma has previously served as a member of the UK Department for Transport鈥檚 Science Advisory Council and also chaired The Safety and Reliability Society. Emma is an advocate for inclusion, a mentor for the Academy鈥檚 (ELS) and leads a team promoting deaf awareness in engineering.

Dr Taylor said: 鈥淚 would like to thank Cranfield for their steadfast support in creating a platform for influence and innovation and how to be a role model for engineers of all backgrounds and ages, through peer to peer mentoring, deaf awareness in engineering academia and industry. Cranfield has made it possible.鈥
