Course structure
One per year, classroom based.What you will learn
On successful completion of this course you will be able to:
- Compare and contrast between the various legal systems and the concepts of criminal prosecution and civil litigatio,
- Evaluate the role and responsibilities of an expert witness in the UK legal system,
- Construct, formulate and appraise an effective expert witness report in compliance to legal requirements for such a document,
- Construct a case to present oral evidence in court effectively and respond successfully to cross-examination, with an insight into how cross-examination is prepared.

- Preparation for examination-in-chief and cross-examination.
Upgrade to a professional qualification
This course will be taught at Master's standard as it is one of the modules that comprise the postgraduate Forensic Modular Master's Programme. Registering for this Short Course for Credit and successfully passing the associated assessment will gain you 10 Cranfield credits. These could then be used to apply for a transfer towards a PgCert/PgDip or MSc in the Forensic Programme should you wish to complete one of these courses within 5 years.

Individuals with an appropriate degree or experience who are interested in the role and legal responsibilities of the forensic expert, Civil and Criminal Procedure Rules, report and statement writing, presentation of evidence in court, and how to prepare for cross-examination.

Situated close to Milton Keynes and Bedford, the Cranfield campus is situated in Wharley End, very close to Cranfield village, and is about 10 minutes from the M1 motorway. There is rail and road access to most major airports as well as coach and train stations. Cranfield campus also has its own airport for private executive business travel.
